Old School
Test drove the MINI Cooper S this morning. Didn't put the little guy through nearly as many stress tests as Charlize Theron did to her MINI in "The Italian Job", but I still managed to come to the conclusion that the MINI is an impressive piece of machinery! Very responsive and surprisingly powerful for a vehicle so teeny-tiny. And once chrome lining fixtures are put in, the dash has the potential of looking smashing. Now if I can only convince myself to let go of my current vehicle... which, by the way, is also lovely. And much safer...

Lovely Day
After walking Beans and having breakfast with the manfriend earlier this morning, I ventured over to the Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building. Picked up some fresh veggies, some lovely cherry blossoms, and a book of botanical drawings by Hugo Guinness. As I headed on home, Stevie's "Sir Duke" ran through my head... *teehee* Tis a gorgeous day thus far...

Destination: NYC
Pictured: Beans wearing a Yankees bomber jacket I picked up in New York. Needless to say, he wasn't fond of his gift. "All the other dogs are going to laugh at me." That seemed to be the sentiment.
Was back in New York this past weekend, and boy, was it cold! I was last there in August (for Dave & Eliza's lovely wedding), and if I may recall, boy, was it hot! Yeah, I'm the Goldilocks of weather. Too hot. Too cold. Is the weather in New York ever "just right"? Believe it or not, yes! I find the temperatures around late-August and early-September lovely! Take-a-stroll-in-the-park-with-yummy-coffee weather. Anyway, despite the weather, I enjoyed my brief stay. Was able to catch up with some of my old college friends and my cousin Jen over some good eats. Indulged in bison sliders at ski-lodge themed restaurant/lounge, Aspen, Panamanian tapas at Calleocho, classic bagel with cream cheese at Lenny's on the West Side, and couture chocolates at Kee's in Soho. Hmm. I should probably go work out now.

Overcompensating
Favorite Joke 1
G-G-G-Genius!
An update on Beans. He now responds to the following commands: sit, shake, down, roll-over, fetch, and stay. The manfriend and I ended up home-schooling him. Hehehe. Like most spelling-bee champs.
Another thing. In my remove-from-the-newstands-by-January-22nd issue of People magazine, there is a mentioning of the death of a very important person. Momofuku Ando, who invented the college staple instant ramen noodles in 1958, recently died at 96 in Japan. *snifflesniffle* R.I.P., Momo. I owe you so much.
P.S. I have a soft spot for photos of Beans blinking.

Miso Happy
They're happy too! (Mr.Hung and Mr.Debs)
My MLK weekend was deliciously fun. San Francisco was mighty chilly this past week, so when the manfriend informed me of an invite to his friend's place for hotpot Friday night, I literally squealed. *teehee* Had another amaaaazing meal on Saturday with the manfriend and my cousin Cindy. We went to Kabuto's (Geary & 15th) for crazy-good sushi. We waited over an hour in the cold before we were seated. Vulturing (yes, I made that word up) over other restaurant patrons did not work. Think our inconsiderate behavior actually led them to linger longer. Damn udon eaters! (No offense to udon. We all "heart" udon.) Funny fact about Cindy: When she gets really excited she closes her eyes and wags her "tail" (ass)! *teehee#2* Finally, Sunday. Omigosh, Sunday. The manfriend had sent me a Hoops & Yoyo e-card notifying me of a Sunday surprise. I was told to dress warmly and to be ready for an early pick-up at 7am. YES. 7 in the morn! The surprise? Read: A morning horseback ride along Half Moon Bay accompanied by my bff Pammy and her boyfriend, "Mr.Debs". And there's more!!! Fancy-shmancy brunch at the Ritz-Carlton afterwards--with a guest appearance from Mr.Hung! I don't deserve to be this happy. I really don't. But I am! YAY!
P.S. I owe y'all a doodle. I know. It's coming.

Cheese
Twenty-seven year-old gal pals shaking booty to pop music sung in falsetto. Sexy so ain't back. Yet tis the scene to be seen later this evening as Pammy and I venture over to HP Pavillion to catch Justin Timberlake's FutureSex/LoveSounds concert. Pathetic? Yeah, we know. But he's our guilty-pleasure, so let us be.
Really bummed that I'll be missing the return of my beloved Grey's. Luckily the manfriend (in exchange for homecooked fried rice) will be providing me with all the juicy details upon my return home. That and abc.com's evenings posts of previously aired episodes. I "heart" video-streaming technology!

Evening Out
The manfriend took me to the San Francisco Symphony earlier this evening (probably with hopes to instill a bit of culture in yours truly). It was a last minute decision (to go, that is) and I am very glad we went. I had a deliciously good time for three reasons: One, the program was entertaining. A mix of Mendelssohn, Bruch, and R.Strauss with famed violinist Sarah Chang making a guest appearance. (Dude, that Sarah Chang. What a beast. In reference to her talent, of course.) Two, the manfriend and I had a uber-close view of the orchestra. We sat in the first row! Acoustically, our seats probably weren't the best in house. But boy, classical music sure gets interesting when you're sitting as close to the performers as we were. Bow strings were flying! Three, the guest conductor was Kurt Masur. He's such a cute, old, *fuzzy* man. Random information: Ken Masur, Kurt's son, graduated from Columbia the same year as I did (2001). In fact, he lived in the same dormitory as I did my senior year (Shapiro), and actually lived right across the hall. Never got to know the kid, but I do remember that he used to roam the hallways wearing cartoon-print PJs that were ever too short on him (both sleeves and pant legs). Right. Just thought I'd share.

(Mis)education
I've been reading this fantastic book titled "The Know-It-All" by A.J. Jacobs and have been learnings lots of random information. ("The Know-It-All" chronicles the author's hilarious, enlightening, and seemingly impossible quest to read the Encyclopaedia Britannica from A to Z.) Some of the knowledge I've accumulated thus far?
1) Rene Descartes had a fetish for women with crossed-eyes.
2) Dogs have a third eyelid to protect the eyeball from irritants.
3) Abalones have 5 assholes.
Yes, if y'all must know, I do feel smarter with each chapter devoured.

Something's Better Than Nothing
Me: One more! Two more! *huff huff puff puff *
Beans: *sniff-sniff* Hmm. No sweat!
Last night, nestled on my couch in the company of the manfriend and two infuriatingly-annoying (but also ridiculously-adorable) puppies, I tried hatching up New Year's resolutions that would not only be challenging but feasible as well. (God only knows how many resolutions I've broken in the past; I'm not particularly militant when it comes to self-promises.) Unable to come up with anything fresh, I have decided to improve upon past ones (read more, exercise more, listen more, draw more... a lot of "mores"). Should I fail them, no biggie. So long that I try, all will be good. For something is almost always better than nothing, no?
