Show and Tell

Final peek at my thesis.
Hopefully, the next time you see anything new from my short, you'll be watching it in full!
Decided to go with sepia tint backgrounds as colored backgrounds got distracting.
Cardboard + After Effects + a little help from my friends = MAGIC

Ongoing Projects

"boo hoo baby"
the title of my work-in-progress thesis.
i'm constructing props and characters out of cardboard and animating the pieces using flash and after effects.
i say that as if i'm an adobe software wiz.
so not the case.
luckily i have wonderful friends who are, and they're going to pull me through the fog.
like pack of selfless sleigh dogs.
woof.

when not cutting or painting up a storm, i can be found messing around with my other ongoing project.
raising a human being.
here i am with my munchkin in the wee hours of the morning.
she's an early riser.
5am, to be exact.

she's not up for the worms.
she's up for the "yo gabba gabba" clips i pull up for her on youtube.

happy baby, happy mommy.

Pat

To all my stalkers, my former-classmates and lifelong pals Alexis and Jeff and I have joined forces of "awesome." Together, we are creating a series of animated shorts highlighting our awkward, shared sense of humor, and yes, we are committed to getting our shorts made while working our day jobs. We've managed to meet up two weeks in a row to brainstorm characters and plot lines and have lots in the works. Not going to share our main dish with y'all, but will surely share a side. Meet "Pat." Yeah, she's a square of butter...

Boo.

Carved pumpkins alongside fellow animators (Jeff, Alexis and Mary). SO MUCH FUN!

The dim lil' guy (bottom left) is the work of my talented hubby. His first jack-o-lantern ever...

Toppers

Check out our well-nourished mermaid tree topper! Isn't she beautiful? She hails from Mexico, but my friend, Alexis, bought her from me while we were out and about in NYC. I've named her "Zoila" (after Jeffrey Lewis' kick-ass, telenovela-loving cleaning lady on "Flipping Out") and I think she's a most wonderful addition to our sparkly tree.

LOTS of photos from NYC to come. I lugged "Matt" (my Nikon D70) on this trip and he came out to play rather frequently... My fingers were a frozen mess as I snapped away, but that was the price I was willing to pay...

East Bound

New York City, here I come. Le hub and I landed free tickets to NYC (courtesy of an Expedia promo), so we're off! Along for the ride? Fellow animators, Jeff and Alexis. (We are lego.) Needless to say, all four of us are very excited. The Big Apple during the holidays?! What more can a girl ask for? Photos of this totally-tubular trip to come. Fo sho.

Gimme a Break

Caught a stand-up show at The Comedy Store late last night. Alexis' friend, Justin McClure had a bit, and it was HILARIOUS! It really was. I'm not just being nice. My face hurt when I left the establishment because I was laughing and smiling so much. OUCH.

Set-building all day. This involves a whole lot of cutting, carving, gluing, painting... This film better get made on time. *gulp*

Registry. Le cub and I haven't gotten around to creating one, but we had better do so soon! I wonder if le cub will approve of the three "must-have" above. Cornishware tea cups (don't they look like the sky?), a chunk of pyrite (why not) and a pig dish (just because). Okay. There goes my five-minute break. Back to the garage...

Gaga Aftermath

The evening was EPIC. This photo (of Alexis) says it all. AND the fact that this evening forced me and le cub to clean the home is a good thing. A very good thing. Check out what our place looked like BEFORE the lil' monsters arrived.

MuhmuhmuhMUH!

My outfit for the Lady Gaga party (click HERE to read more about it) has been decided. Will work towards making it a reality next week.

Speaking of Lady Gaga, Alexis and I stalked Ticketmaster this past Saturday and managed to snag tickets for her August 12th show. WOO-HOO!!!

Gaga for Gaga

My better-half (not le cub) in the animation program is an equally (actually more-so) feelingless chica named Alexis Block. Stalk her HERE. Together we are throwing a Lady Gaga-themed party come end-March. Pants optional! Gaga would have it no other way. The Evite lil' Miss Block created for our event is UBER-dope. To quote "The September Issue" critics, it is "a hurricane of fabulousness." Click HERE to see what I'm talking about.

Even the menu is Gaga-inspired!

Appetizers
Alejandro Dip
Little Monsters in a Blanket
The Fame Salad
Poker Face Pizzas

Entrees
Let's Make a Sandwich Station
Monster Stuffed Turkey
Bad Romance Lasagna Rolls
Money Honey Veggie Dish

Dessert
So Happy I Could Die Cupcakes
Gaga Cookies

Beverages
Diet Coke
Star Struck Shirley Temple
Dance in the Dark Cocktail

Yes, this party is going to be epic.

Which Gaga should I be?!? (I kinda' love Bubbles Gaga - photo above.)

Tell It To My Heart

Oh Taylor (Dayne)... where have you gone?

So uh, I spent last weekend back in San Francisco. Over lunch at Taylor Refresher's at the Ferry Building, it was brought to my attention that I am neither a sentimental nor sensitive person. I am dead inside. Yeah, you heard me. I'm DEAD INSIDE. I have no feelings. Well, not NO feelings. But I possess very few feelings. Although the contents of this blog would suggest otherwise (I'm always gushing about le cub), I am incapable of conveying real emotion. I hide behind a wall of sarcasm, and well, I don't know what's wrong with me. When complimented, I get red and awkward, and am unable to shoot a compliment in return the way one's supposed to. When folks say, "I miss you, Debs!" I laugh it off and sarcastically mutter, "Er, me too?" "I love you, Debs!" will get you a "Thanks!" When folks pass away, I go, "That sucks, but that's life." And ooh, when folks link arms with me or hug me, I actually get stiff. It's the bubble. I walk around with an invisible Lady Gaga bubble. I don't know why I wear one... but I do. I don't know why. I suppose it's easier living as I do - being dead inside.

Le cub insists that he also isn't a "feeler", but ranks above me in the spectrum of feelings. Which led me to think, if even le cub ranks above me, who ranks beneath me? Larry David. The cast of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Chelsea Handler. Hmm. Is there anyone I know who ranks below me?!?

ALEXIS! My workshop compadre, Alexis! Thank you, woman, for being feeling-less with me. Even those of us who are dead inside appreciate some good company.

Behind

Watching "The September Issue" with Alexis at noon. YAY! Yes, we're a little behind on our movie-watching, but such is the life of a student. Muahahahaha. Who am I kidding? I don't have class until 4pm on Thursdays! Life is very good.

Chuckles.

My friend Alexis, a fellow animator, is working as a camp counselor this summer. The kids under her watch range from age 5 to 10, and boy, they say and do the goofiest things. My favorite? The one kid (whose identity shall remain anonymous) who goes up to her, *sniffs*, and then announces, "I smelled you." AWESOME.
