New Additions

Ones that do not cry :)
A $3.50 Rose Bowl Flea Market find. (Not including the frame. I picked this intentionally-gaudy gold frame out at Aaron Brother's 1-Cent Frame Sale). Yes, what you see is Bob's Big Boy... floating in a toilet.
On a fancier note? On its way to le cub and cougar home is another piece of art... One to celebrate with champagne - and fried chicken. A lithograph of Murakami Takashi's DOB: And then and then and then and then and then in rust (2006). I know this image has been seen everywhere (Murakami is, after all, Japan's answer to Warhol)... but his work, along with Yoshitomo Nara's have long been the source of inspiration for all of mine. I bid for this piece in an auction on artnet hoping I'd win, and holy-crap, I did!!! DOB is the boss of Murakami's character empire. It was only fitting that I target him first. Want to see more of Murakami's work? HERE is a lil' video on the man and his Versaille exhibition (held earlier this year). Ahhhh. Genius.
Just so y'all know, Beans approves of le cub and cougar's current collection of work. Once everything is displayed properly, a lil' art tour is due. Speaking of art, the LA Art Show is taking place in January... I'll be there. Obvi.
Epic

Le hub and I have been back in the States for a couple of days now, and we've had a moment to reflect upon our whirlwind trip back to Taipei this holiday season.
Back home, my parents threw us a HUGE wedding reception at a really luxe hotel, and well, let's just say that the party was nothing short of EPIC. We entered the filled banquet hall on a cloud of dry ice (all our entrances should be so grand! haha), a "food show" prefaced a 12-course meal, and wait for it, the President of Taiwan, Ma Ying-Jeo, was in attendance. A high school friend of my father's and a college friend of my mother's, the gracious man stayed the entire length of the party! A real honor. Yes, my parents have clout... (they're effin' cool.) Pity le hub and I don't. But seeing these photos, you'd never know :) Yes, that's us waving good-bye to our 500 wedding guests at the end of the evening as if we're William and Kate. WTF.
All kidding aside, thank you, Mom and Dad, for a truly memorable and "baller" party.

A Whole Lot of Naughty...

and a teensy bit of nice...
Christmas 2010 was all sorts of wonderful. Le cub and I baked and ate buttery chocolate-chip cookies and watched Banksy's "Exit Through the Gift Shop". It's the first movie I've watched utilizing my brand new Netflix subscription. (Thank you, cub!) A clever lil' documentary or mockumentary that I'm just going to assume is "authentic" - at least until someone (Banksy) admists otherwise.

So Close and Yet So Far
Moot, Much?

Fred and Mick discuss the merits of jeggings versus jorts. This is funny, seeing that penguins cannot wear either. (Shot inspired by the great Diane Arbus. See below.)

In the Dumps
Toppers

Check out our well-nourished mermaid tree topper! Isn't she beautiful? She hails from Mexico, but my friend, Alexis, bought her from me while we were out and about in NYC. I've named her "Zoila" (after Jeffrey Lewis' kick-ass, telenovela-loving cleaning lady on "Flipping Out") and I think she's a most wonderful addition to our sparkly tree.
LOTS of photos from NYC to come. I lugged "Matt" (my Nikon D70) on this trip and he came out to play rather frequently... My fingers were a frozen mess as I snapped away, but that was the price I was willing to pay...

East Bound
New York City, here I come. Le hub and I landed free tickets to NYC (courtesy of an Expedia promo), so we're off! Along for the ride? Fellow animators, Jeff and Alexis. (We are lego.) Needless to say, all four of us are very excited. The Big Apple during the holidays?! What more can a girl ask for? Photos of this totally-tubular trip to come. Fo sho.

Oh, Christmas Tree

Le hub and I hit up Lowes this past weekend in hopes of hunting down the perfect little tree. We returned home with a pottled lil' guy. (NOT the ginormous one pictured above. Though he can be seen at The Americana in Glendale.) Ooh. Back to our tree. Le hub named him "Archer." (I'd post a photo of Archer, but he's looking pretty naked at the moment. Give me a few days...)
I try to buy one new ornament representative of le hub, me and Beans each year, and well... BEHOLD!!! This year's selections, in all their sparkly, deceivingly-non-edible, glory: a pickle for me, a cookie for le hub, and a hot dog for Beans...

Saving All My Love For You

Bah Humbug

Nooooot.
Christmas shopping 2010. All frickin' done! Le cub and I make for an extremely efficient duo :) Couldn't resist picking up a sparkly piece for myself along the way. (As my wedding gown revealed, I've never met a sequin I didn't like.) I'm not really a party gal, but I sure as hell will find an excuse to bust this bad-ass baby out while I'm back in Taipei. Post-wedding-reception fun?!?

Say Cheese!

Overloaded on cheesecake this past weekend. To think that I didn't even like cheesecake... that was until I tasted the homemade pumpkin and key-lime goodness of my friends, Laura and Robby. Holy-shit incredible. Incredible, I tell ya!
But le cub and cougar wedding part duex is coming up. I should probably lay off the sweets lest all the cheesecake that I've been indulging in make an unwelcome guest-appearance on December 17th. Damn you, muffin top!

Black Friday

My brave cub has decided to brave the populated streets of downtown Burbank in order to take advantage of Black Friday sales. I, meanwhile, am patiently (more like lazily) awaiting all the kick-ass sales to come on Cyber Monday. Pity that our wireless router has been malfunctioning as of late. How am I supposed to compete with all the other web-browsers on Monday if my connection's subpar?!? Beans would fix the problem for me... but he doesn't have any thumbs.

Jump the Gun

The rosemary necessary to complete the Captain's Thanksgiving recipe has gone missing. He suspects that his wife, Lulu Limon, has swiped it. Having once again mistaken it for a Christmas tree...
Once Upon a Time

Le cub and I were married on August 28th, but we've yet to see our wedding photos! (We've also yet to see our full-length wedding video... but I suppose these are the unforeseen costs of hiring totally-awesome-but-uber-high--in-demand photogs and videographers for one's big day.) No biggie. I just hope this means that Max is going to make us look that much more awesome... because visuals of that day are unfortunately fading away in our feeble minds. Max did send over a handful for my parents to use at our December reception back in Taiwan. Here's one for kicks. Can't wait to blow it up...

An Apple a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

I eat at least one apple a day, but that still doesn't keep the doctors away. A couple months ago (during le cub and cougar honeymoon in Italy), I discovered a strange bump that'd grown on my left wrist. Being the resourceful gal that I am, I logged on to webMD and diagnosed myself while in Rome. Turns out I've grown myself a cyst (Dude, you're not welcome here!) and that cyst could either be harmful or harmless. Yowza. But my two MD cousins touched it with their fingers and declared it harmless - as did a third doctor pal. But all three also suggested that I go get an MRI "in the near future" just to be 100% certain that I don't have any funky tumor growth occurring in my lil' bod. So yeah. I'm going to the doc's tomorrow. Not looking forward to the experience. Will be thankful when it's over!

Find Me in the Stacks

Working on what swill be the very last research paper I will ever have to write. Omigaaaawd! These next two weeks are going to be painful, but once they're over, I'll be incredibly relieved. Am a super duper proud card holder of the Burbank Public Library and The Getty Research Library. That's right suckas! I'm a nerd, and proud of it.

Aloha

Spent a brief but relaxing weekend in Maui with le husband. Was there for an old friend's wedding (congratulations, Jude & Danny!!!) which just so happened to coincide with my 31st birthday. Didn't get to explore the island as much as we'd hoped, but needless to say, had a totally fab weekend. Mmm... spam musubi! Can't wait to return...
