Gimme, Gimme
MOOOORE. gimme MOOORE. gimme MORE.
stopped by galerie half on melrose today. the selection of vintage and antique furniture blew my mind. every single piece of furniture and artwork made me drool. serge mouille light fixtures. early-edition arne jacobsen. obscure scandinavian paintings. i now know how beans feels when in the presence of cookies. le sigh.
Lookin' Like a Fetus
er. i meant that as a compliment. le puo-puo (grammy on my mom's side) turned 84 yesterday, and we celebrated over a fun-filled meal in arcadia. check-out this photo taken at our wedding. (by auntie su-su). my too-cute-for-words grams (escorted by my dapper gramps), not knowing the "theme" (if there even was one) of our wedding, matched our wedding!!! yellow flowers mixed with greens and a black base? coincidence?! i think not. grams must have espn. (yes, i meant to type that extra "n". gotta love "mean girls".)

Liberace
um, if we ever have a boy, le wife (that'd be me) will have to leave le boy scout pinecar derby stuff to le husband. i mean, look at what I did. the once-masculine block of wood is now encrusted in girly sparkles and topped with a penguin. it poops sparkles as it drives by. poor glue job. tsk-tsk-tsk.
well, in case you missed the memo, le wife (moi) is participating in next weekend's buddy system studios' pinewood derby bbq jamboree. (heck, doesn't that sound like fun?!) i think i may name my car after kim zolciak's song "tardy for the party". (kim is a "real" housewife from atlanta. the song will give you nightmares. google it if you dare.) that or "liberace"...

in the market for a home.
not that our current place isn't a home. it is. it's a temporary one belonging to le pa and le ma :)
the above-pictured warmly-lit residence located in marina del rey is totally up our alley. a tad small for the price though. wonder if it's meant to be...

Just Throwing it Out There
Discovered on ffffound, an awesome children's book titled, "All My Friends are Dead" by Avery Monsen and Jory John. I took one look at the main character (an old man whom I've attempted to recreate from memory at the top left corner of this sheet), and decided to run with the idea of once again working with an old soul. Here's a page of doodles I came up with one slow morning back at Buddy System Studios. (I don't like sitting around doing nothing, okaaaay?)
Buzz words: old man, speedo tailor, mr. universe, unfulfilled dreams, sequins, body hair... OMG, you can totally see it already, can't you? A beauty pageant extravaganza done in stop-motion!!! *thunderous applause*
Um, yeah. Just so you know, I'm probably not going to pursue this lil' nugget for several reason. But you can bet that body hair (not actual human body hair) will be appearing on some character in my thesis project. yes-sireee...
Puppy Love
le cub is leaving for hicksville, u.s.a. tomorrow (some undisclosed destination between detroit and toledo). so very sad. now i know how beans is feeling. not having his playmate gunther around. at least i'll have beans.
pictured: my cousin's pug puppy, "dumpling." adorbs, huh? my pal alexis also became a proud puppy mama recently with the addition of a sweet malamute named "napoleon." photos to come. and doodles. i have been drawing. just haven't been posting...

Marcel the Shell With Shoes On
MARCEL THE SHELL WITH SHOES ON from Dean Fleischer-Camp on Vimeo.
While on le cub and cougar honeymoon, numerous friends and family members sent me links to this above-featured video by the goofy duo that is Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer-Camp. Friends tell me they think of me while watching this high-brow piece. Wahaha. Watch this video and tell me... if you know me... am I like Marcel?!?I Like Big Chests and I Cannot Lie
Girlier than what le cougar and cub are used to, but lovely, no? These babies from Wisteria are in consideration.
Never Let Me Go
... says Beans.
While le cub (yeah, he's back to being "le cub"), Beans stayed with our dog-walker friend, "Mr. J". Beans loves hangin' with Mr. J because doing so entails trips to Huntington Beach, hikes, dog parks, and more. PLUS, Mr. J has a dog himself. One named "Gunther". He's a Weimaraner, so the name "Gunther" is pretty darn close to perfection.
Anyhoo... Beans has been kind of mopey since his return home. No loss of appetite, no lack of interest in play... so he's not clinically depressed or anything. But we think he's been feeling a tad lonely since being separated from Gunther. We say "Gunther" and he gets all excited. Poor puppy. This happened when my bff was last in time and left with her dog, Shady. Beans misses having a playmate.
Going hiking today, so hopefully he'll forget about the fact that he's all by himself * cue the Celine Dion ballad*.
note: I really want to see this movie!!! huge carey mulligan fan here...

Art of Living
Remember the Time - Part I
we got married at a former smog shop?
there were lots of marigolds (because they go well with black puppies) and lots of candles (because i used to operate a candle factory)...
a not-so-tiny gentleman named "Tini" serenaded us down the aisle to jack johnson's "better together" (because we are) and "somewhere over the rainbow" (because it's magical)...
guests chow down on miniatures catered by "the food matters" (because it does!) during reception. these melt-in-your-mouth pastrami sliders were our favorite...
table-settings sparkled...
with the help of an assortment of kooky flowers...
not to mention an original doodle of "things that pair well together" for each and every guest...
more to come.
photos taken by friends, jay, karen, and jen. le cub and i were too busy to document!

Damage Control
The verdict is in. (Well, people's Facebook photos are in.)
I was clearly NOT a blushing bride on le cub and cougar wedding day. (Note that the idiocy peaked when being photographed without my cub.) Am kind of scared to see what was else was caught on film. Poor Max. Poor Joel.
Oh. Did I mention that an actual WAVE took place during dinner? Niiiice.

Reunited...
and it feels so good...
Back on the ground with le pup. So many doodles to share and so stories to tell :) But first things first. The freeing of Mr. Onion (tentatively named Mr. Onion until he is granted a better name). We saw him on our first day in Rome and bought him on our last day in Rome. He's not crying. It's just raining by his face...

Rain, Rain, Go Away
le hubs and i are returning to rome tomorrow. YAY!!! sorrento, capri and positano were fun, but we think that dry weather would be nice for a change. (it's been raining everyday.) plus, we miss the food.
three days remaining. we've been away from home and beans for ten days now. our honeymoon... bit long? yes, but we never want ours to end. pasta-mama spotting is just way too much fun.

Meh.
today was spent traveling from Olbia (Sardinia) to Civitavecchia (Rome) to Naples (our one night stop-over before hitting up the Amalfi Coast). it took all day to get here via a cab, a ferry, a bus, a train, another train, and another cab. needless to say, this anti-transfers gal was not pleased with the process. luckily le hubby ended our transitional day on a sweet note. he brought gelato back to our room... pistachio AND nutella! *nommmmm*

Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto...
Go Team
after enjoying breakfast not in bed (because we'd ordered too much), le hubby and i went sunnin' in sardinia for one last time. le hubby and i are really going to miss this charming beach. inspired by the suckling pig entree he enjoyed last night, i made him this italian sand pig. le hubby built a wall and moat to protect my lil' oinkster. farewell, porto cervo! i don't think i've EVER felt so relaxed in my life...
